What advice would you give to a student who is about to start an internship?
The first piece advice I would give to them is to simply try and enjoy it and embrace the opportunity. The purpose of an internship is to experiment and get to know the field of work that you are interested in before the time comes to decide. You should take advantage of the opportunities that the program offers you to fully grasp the field and you gain experience and knowledge the more you do, which is what employers and universities look for when shortlisting their candidates that apply, giving you an edge above many others if you do have it. Try your best and don’t be afraid to ask for advice, but also be prepared to showcase your qualities to impress your mentors. You are not the finished article and even experienced professionals still need to develop and learn, so you are not expected to know it all, just have an open mind and value any advice which is shared with you. You will notice you get more confident as you gain more experience and this is completely natural.
