Sports and PE

At FirstPoint, our goal is to provide outstanding Physical Education for all our students. Alongside our extensive extracurricular programme we offer an innovative and fully inclusive curriculum pathway. We are one department with specialist PE teachers working with Foundation School children to supporting A Level students, creating a team atmosphere that inspires confidence and engagement in all students, to, in turn, inspire them to make healthy active choices in and around school.

We have a multi-sport focus throughout the year where students are exposed to a wide variety of sporting opportunities that enable them to develop their physical literacy and progress towards our GCSE programme. Our PE department is confident in its approach to innovation, regularly utilising new technologies to reinforce learning. GCSE, A-Level PE and BTEC Sport are ever growing subjects, and this is testament to the quality of teaching, and our passion for Sport at the school.

Working in partnership with our curriculum pathway we have a rapidly evolving extracurricular programme. We offer a variety of representative sports to students across the three seasons including; athletics, aquathon, basketball, cricket, cross country, football, netball, rounders, swimming, tennis & touch rugby. With over 700 fixtures played each year, there is a large and diverse range of sports providing opportunities to develop leisure interests that will last a lifetime. We are a five-day school week, and sport is played most afternoons from Year 2 – Year 13.

We are incredibly fortunate to have some very talented athletes who have played representative sport in Basketball, Swimming and Golf. We truly believe in celebrating the success of all students in Sport and PE throughout the school.

By establishing a lifelong passion for sport, we hope that pupils will continue to value its importance long after they have left GEMS FirstPoint School.
