Rachael Gabel

My name is Rachael Gabel and I am the school counsellor working with pupils from FS1 to year 7. 
I am from the UK where I practiced as a senior social worker for over 10 years, supporting children and young people from 0-18, and their families who presented with a varying range of issues.  
I then worked as a team manager within children services before being appointed as project lead for the Department For Education (DFE) placing social workers into schools to address complex issues to prevent escalation into statutory services.

I then moved on to work as a consultant providing independent  advice and guidance to schools to address safeguarding concerns whilst working directly with children as an external source of support. 
I have been in Dubai since January 2024 working as a school counsellor. My role has included working with children and young people on a one to one basis, crisis intervention, group work and family support. Referrals can be made from staff, parents or from the students themselves. I use solution focused therapy to identify a shared goal and make a plan of how we will work together to meet that goal. I also work collaboratively with the adults around the child, including parents to support them to address issues within the home. Each plan is outcome focused and I use a range of methods, models and approaches tailored to address individual needs. 

It is important that all children here at First Point School are given the best opportunities to thrive academically, but this also means that their social and emotional needs are met. This is my priority as the school counsellor.
