EAL Teacher
I have been working at GEMS FirstPoint School since 2019 and have worked in the Inclusion EAL department for the past three years. Before this, I taught at GEMS Wellington Academy DSO, Safa Private School and GEMS Dubai American Academy. My teaching philosophy is to create a safe, nurturing classroom environment to allow students to be risk-takers and achieve to their full potential.
I have a Bachelor of Education from Brandon University, Canada, a Master of Science (Hons) specialising in Literacy and Reading K-6 from Walden University, USA and an International TESOL certification. I started my teaching career in Canada but for the past 21 years I have taught throughout Primary and Secondary.
Living in Dubai for many years has given me a solid foundation in working with English language learners. This has provided me with ample opportunities to interact with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This experience has honed my skills in effective communication, cultural sensitivity, and adapting teaching methods to meet the unique needs of non-native English speakers.
